For the socio-psychological rehabilitation of children with diabetes, it is of great importance to develop this category of children into independent individuals, which is quite complicated due to their lifestyle. This problem is especially acute in children who are diagnosed with diabetes at an early age (1 to 10 years). These children are practically chained to parental custody and could not imagine their existence without them.
To solve this problem, "Diabetes Camp", where with the help of specially trained staff (doctors, nurses, adults with diabetes) children (12-18 years old) are taught and adapted to the conditions of independent coexistence. The duration of the camp is 10 days. During this time, children themselves become accustomed to insulin injections, learn to adjust the dosage, receive a variety of physical activities, become accustomed to psychological peers, which is of great importance for children with diabetes (many of whom have an inferiority complex due to this disease).
The first "Diabetic Camp" for Georgian and American children was held in 1995 in the United States (Hikory-Hill, Missouri), the association, the international organization "Ect-Georgia" and its first director Prof. R. James With the support of.
Since 1996, similar camps have been held every year for Georgian and foreign children in Georgia.
