Honorary members of the Association

The Association for the Protection of Children with Diabetes has had many fans and supporters for twenty-five years since its inception. These included high-ranking government officials (presidents, members of parliament, ministers, deputy ministers, heads of local government and self-government bodies, etc.), as well as representatives of the private sector from both Georgia and abroad. Although our work has been successful, officials have at various times come to power to prevent the treatment and social protection of children with diabetes and the diabetic population in general. Their attempts to cut or stop state programs on diabetes, to bring low-quality insulins and analytical equipment into the country were unsuccessful as a result of our resistance. The culmination of the violence and injustice against the association was (2009-2011) an attempt by some high-ranking government officials to appropriate the newly established International Standards Rehabilitation Center for children with diabetes. This last attempt also failed due to our persistent resistance. Given that this edition is solemn and jubilee, the authors refrained from exposing those individuals who have hindered our work in all possible ways over the years, and decided to include in the book only the names of people who have always supported diabetic children and supported their decisions.

To select such individuals, in 1993 the Association, by decision of the General Assembly, introduced the title of Honorary Member, to which was later added the Gold Medal.

Since the establishment of the Association, the title of Honorary Member and Gold Medal have been awarded to those who have shown themselves with the help of charitable children and charitable activities.

Aslan Abashidze, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara became the first honorary member of the Association. During the worst of the war in the country, in January 1993, he personally complied with a request from the president of the association and purchased a two-year supply of insulin for children with diabetes, which he delivered to us through his special representative in Tbilisi. This saved the lives of hundreds of children who unfortunately had no guardians other than the Association at the time.

The President of Georgia Eduard Shevardnadze became the second honorary member of the Association. After our first meeting, which took place on March 9, 1992, E. Shevardnadze became a strong supporter of children with diabetes and the diabetic population in general. He always listened to our request, which was released by specific decisions. E. Shevardnadze inaugurated our first "Diabetic Children's Center" in November 1998.

Zurab Zhvania, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia became the third honorary member of the Association. He supported all the legislative initiatives put forward on behalf of the Association and helped us to ensure that they went smoothly to the plenary session of the Parliament, where we had the great support of all political groups and factions.

Zurab Zhvania, as well as E. Shevardnadze, were awarded honorary diplomas in the presence of the members of the association during their visit to the Diabetic Children Center.

Later, Sergei Smirnov, Vice-President of Novo Nordisk and Victor Vlasov, Caucasus Manager of the same company, became honorary members and gold medalists. They were in 2000-2010. They provided invaluable assistance to the diabetic population of Georgia. Our country received many millions of dollars worth of free insulin, and the association provided financial support during the construction of the rehabilitation center. During these years, with the support of the company "Novo Nordisk" operated a certified training center for doctors, and the association's doctors and specialists actively participated in almost all international conferences and congresses every year.

In the following years, endocrinologists Prof. Ramaz Kurashvili and Lamzira (Leila) Komshiashvili, as well as Alexander Kvitashvili, Minister of Labor and Health of Georgia were awarded the Gold Medal of the Association by the decision of the General Assembly of the Association. With the support of the latter, the funding of the state program for the treatment and rehabilitation of children with diabetes has significantly increased, which has allowed us to significantly increase the provision of analytical and technical means for our children.

The merit of the Honorary Member of the Association and the winner of the Gold Medal, Mikheil Machavariani, Member of Parliament of Georgia of many convocations, is especially worth mentioning. He voluntarily took responsibility in the Parliament of Georgia and in 2004-2012. Continued lobbying for diabetes started by the president of the association m. Together with the Machavariani Association, he has been actively involved in the Parliament of Georgia and the Ministry of Health, as well as in the discussion of state programs, as well as in the construction and improvement of a rehabilitation center for children with diabetes. MP m. With the help of Machavariani, the Parliament of Georgia adopted many legislative proposals initiated by us and gave them the form of laws.

On November 14, 2014, the Association elected Nodar Khaduri, Minister of Finance of Georgia, as its Honorary Member and awarded a Gold Medal, which supported our legislative proposal to establish a number of benefits for non-governmental organizations with charitable status. These changes were made in the Tax Code of Georgia in the form of special clauses.

On November 14, 2016, the International Day of Diabetes, in the big assembly hall of the Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel, where the 25th anniversary of the Association was celebrated, the General Assembly elected Tinatin Chantladze, a distinguished endocrinologist, as the Honorary Member of the Association. Cash bonus as well.

On November 14, 2017, Zaza Sofromadze, Deputy Minister of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia was elected an honorary member of the Association and awarded a gold medal.

On April 27, 2018, by the decision of the Association, he was elected an honorary member and awarded the Gold Medal by the President of the International Diabetes Federation, Professor Nam Cho
